A restaurant terrace on Arcachon Bay runs service after service from June to September, in the sun, the sand and the salt. Furniture lives more there in one season than elsewhere in five years. Before choosing a model, ask yourself four questions.
1. Will it stay outdoors without heavy upkeep? Solid teak is saturated with a natural oil that makes it rot-proof: it does not decay and is not troubled by sea spray. For woven seats, Sunproof olefin rope, solution-dyed, does not fade in the sun. Teak turns grey within a few months: on a terrace, this silver-grey patina is often the most fitting, and it asks for nothing.
2. Can it be cleared away quickly? At the end of service, or when the wind gets up, the terrace has to be cleared. Stackable chairs save that time: Elsa, in pale teak with a natural-tone synthetic weave, and Maria, with a slim frame and a seat of woven black rope.
3. Can it keep pace at the counter? For a bar or high tables, stools without cushions to bring in: Oka bar, with a sculpted reclaimed teak back and a rope seat, Lisa bar, with a back and seat of coiled rope, Dewi, with a woven seat and low back. Allow a seat height of 65 cm for a counter of around 90 cm, 75 cm for a proper bar, and 55 to 60 cm of width per stool (see our article on height).
4. Do the tables suit your layout? A table on a central pedestal, such as Orenda100 or Soluna, lets the chairs slide in all around and is easy to push together for a large party. We offer round or rectangular tables, in teak or with a mineral top, sized to your room, bespoke included.
Care during the season
- Every evening or after a gust of wind, a soft brush to clear the sand from between the slats and out of the weaves.
- Regularly, soapy water and a soft brush, then a rinse with clean water. A hose is enough; avoid the pressure washer, which damages the wood fibres and pulls apart those of the rope.
- Bring the cushions in during prolonged rain. The covers come off and wash at 30 °C.
- In winter, teak can stay outside, under a breathable cover.
Order before the season
Pieces in stock ship within 48 hours of payment. Pieces made to order or bespoke (a size, a finish, a seat) usually take 16 weeks, a lead time confirmed on the quote: a terrace planned for June is therefore decided in winter. Trade prices, lead times and terms are set out when you open your account, in the trade area.
At the La Teste-de-Buch showroom, Dominique welcomes you to try the chairs and bar stools before ordering them in series.
